A Reflection on the Daily Office Readings

Deuteronomy 3:18-28

Just as the Lord gave Israel the promised land, the Lord desires to give you his blessing. In what ways have you occupied the blessings God has prepared for you? How have you crossed over from a place of scarcity to a place of abundance? Moses informed the people of Israel that God would use Joshua to lead them in procuring God’s blessings but that they would have to overcome forces of opposition. Be mindful that the best things in life do not come easy. You must fight for these blessings. In doing so, you need not be afraid, for it is the Lord our God who fights for you. Take heart, God has only begun to do great things in your life. The fullness of God’s blessings may or may not be experienced in your lifetime but the steps you take today will impact generations to come. Therefore, take one more step towards that promised land today and increase the hope for those who come behind you tomorrow.

Romans 9:19-33

Who are we to argue with God? This is a question that the Apostle Paul raised. Does the clay ask the potter why it has been made in a particular fashion? The potter has complete rights over the clay. Even those items considered lesser by the world were made by the potter with a greater plan and purpose in mind. Therefore, lean into your calling and believe that God will do great things with you regardless of how the world sees you.

Matthew 24:1-14

We are living in a time when nations have risen up against other nations, and some kingdoms have attempted to destroy other kingdoms. Due to these atrocities, we are experiencing famines and overwhelming frustrations in various places. Innocent people are being tortured and put to death. Sometimes, it feels like there is more hate in the world than there is love. Many of us have lost hope in the church and state. Our trust in one another has been eroded and, as a result, we end up betraying one another. Fake media has led many people astray. There is an increase of lawlessness, and many have become cold-hearted and emotionally disconnected. Despite all this, we must endure to the end for we know that we will be saved. We must recommit to sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is God’s love for creation, and our love for God and one another that will heal the world.

To God be the glory now and forever. Amen.
